Richard is Director of Creative Content at Dangerous Films, one of the UK's leading independent production companies. Dangerous has an award-winning track record and extensive co-production experience. Clients include BBC, Discovery Channel, ProSieben, TF1, National Geographic and Channel 5.
Richard read Natural Sciences at Christ's College, Cambridge and joined the BBC as an assistant producer in 1987. Notable achievements whilst at the BBC include being the youngest person to produce the BBC1 flagship science show Tomorrow's World in its 33 year history and being the creative force behind the most ambitious science series ever undertaken, The Human Body. These eight films tell the story of our changing body from conception to death, using ground-breaking imaging techniques and unique documentary reporting. The series won 3 BAFTA and 5 RTS awards and has been seen by over 50 million people word-wide. For his role as Series Producer, Richard was named the British Medical Association's Medical Broadcaster of the Year in 1998.
Richard moved into drama directing in 1999, winning a BAFTA nomination as Best New Director for the Channel 4 drama Teachers. In that year he also wrote and produced anIMAX feature film, The Human Body, inspired by the TV series.
Since co-founding the production company Dangerous Films, Richard has done much to pioneer the development of the factual drama genre, with the BAFTA and Grierson nominated film D-Day, in 2004 and 9/11 Inside the Twin Towers, a gripping and sensitive account from those trapped within the World Trade Centre buildings, which aired around the world last year. Most recently he directed the international co-production Diana: Last Days of a Princess.
Dangerous is currently in production with over 20 hours of high-end factual TV and pure drama projects. They specialise in big, difficult projects of huge ambition. Several programmes are currently in production, including a feature film drama about the Moon landings and a major series about NASA.
